Pricing FAQs
How do you calculate your fees?
There is no charge until the account is funded. The fee then accrues on a daily basis. Every day, we take your fee percentage, divided by 365, then multiplied by your total account value. We add this amount to your outstanding platform usage fee. Your account value is the sum of all cash and marketable securities held in the account, using the last available close price for each security.
How is the fee paid?
The fee is billed to the account of the first business day following the end of a quarter. The fee will be automatically debited from your account. If there is insufficient cash in the account to cover the fee, M1 will sell securities to come up with the correct amount.
Are there additional fees?
The United States government imposes certain regulatory fees that are passed through to the consumer. These occur on the sale of securities and are equal to:

  • SEC Fee = total price of transaction x 23.10 / 1,000,000
  • TAF Fee = shares sold x 0.0001119 with a maximum of $5.95

How much money do I need to invest in my M1 account?
The minimum amount to open an M1 account is $100. Also, please note that a customer cannot withdraw money such that their account value would drop below their outstanding platform usage fee. If the account value drops below 3x the platform usage fee, M1 will liquidate all positions into cash. The account will remain in cash until the account value is higher than 3x the outstanding platform usage fee.
